Doing the Disco

As I said before I have fallen in love with Oakland, but how it really started was through the night life and going out to a bunch of different bars. Hey what can I say I'm single and in my 20's and I love to dance. My first bar experience in Oakland was the Layover, and coming from east bay bars this was a perfect one to make my transition over to Oakland. They have good music and pretty well priced drinks. Plus Uncle Dougie serves amazing sandwich's right outside, the best snack when you've basically danced your life away( which is what I do a lot). I've been to a bunch of others bars such as Somar, The Kerry House ( shout out to Byron!), 355,  Dogwood, VanKleef ( best greyhounds) and a couple others. But what I am here to brag about is my new favorite bar in Oakland which is Disco Volante! I have now been here on a couple of occasions and every time has been some of the best nights I've had out in Oakland so far. My first experience at this bar was going to see Caldecott a local band perform. The stage at Disco is a little on the small side but they put on awesome show and everyone seemed to have a good time that night. The next time I was here I went with my friend Detroit Jeremy and my sister. We came to just have some good drinks, eat food,  and to visit our friend James who works there on occasional nights( Side note if hes ever bar tending order a Manhattan from him!!!!) I order a glass of Cava, Poema, Penedes Spain , Jeremy order the Hot smoked pork belly , Fried dill pickles, and Grilled Point Reyes oysters, and my sister ordered a glass of Tempranillo, Abadia Retuerta, Sardon del Duero Spain 2008 and the Smoked potato chips. I think I have to mention that I'm a total Wino and sparkling are some of my favorites! It was delectable , I liked the dry taste and  it was an easy drink to sip on and enjoy. As for the food I had one of the oysters and usually I don't like sea food that taste like the sea but these were cooked perfectly! That night their live music was Carne Cruda Cumbia Project and special guest Dr. Loco +El Kool Kyle playing cumbia and old latin vinyl. It was another fun night dancing to Latin music and some blues too played by Dr.Loco. My most recent time there which solidified my love for Disco Volante being my new favorite bar was again seeing Caldecott play ( Hint: This is there new residence every third Sunday of the month so that means go see them!) This time I ordered a glass of the Riesling, Selbach, Spatlese, Saar Germany 2008, suggested by Damon who was bar tending that night, thanks! I about died when I  had it was so good! It was chilled at just the right temperature and the sweetness of the wine was not overpowering but perfect especially for such a warm summer night in Oakland. I'm not the biggest fan of eating pork but my friend Jeremy ordered it once again and the way everyone who's tried it says its amazing I had to have a bite.... so here I go in saying hats off to the chef here because everything you cook that I've had has blown my palette away. I highly highly highly recommend this place to anyone who is living or visiting  Oakland for the food, drinks, ambiance, and always entertaining live music!!
